I am directed by the Earl of Kimberley to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated the 6th December, stating that the Sec: Cardwell has decided on doubling the present strength of the Lascars at Hongkong to perform the night sentry duty which it was proposed to transfer to the Colonial Police, and that the Major General Commanding the troops has been requested to raise another company of Gun Lascars, whose cost will fall on the coming Estimates.
I am to express to you Lord Kimberley's concurrence in this arrangement.
