I have to add, that I was recommended for the appointment by your predecessor, the late Major General Brunker, and that I have served as Assistant Surveyor General for 2 years, for the last 17 months of which under the present Surveyor General, whose opinion of my fitness for the post, I have enclosed in an extract of a letter from him to the Colonial Secretary of this Colony.

Extract from a letter written by L. St. G. Moorsom, Surveyor General of Hong-Kong to the Colonial Secretary dated 14th October 1870
