THE DUKE'S CLIMB, The party, which originally set out on this last climbing exploit, consisted of the follow- ing-The Duke of the Abruzzi; Marchese Negrotto, Italian Navy; Cáv. Vittario Sella, photographic expert; Cav. Dr. Filippa de Filippi, explorer and writer; and Signor Botta, assistant pantographer, The party also included seven Europ:ad guiden, of whom the following, four had previously, bad experience is the Himalayas-Joseph Peti- gak, Alexis Brocherel,' Henri escheral, G. Sarecio: On arrival at Bombay, the Duke travelled by train to Raw♫l Pindi, and thence, went on Srinagar, where the coulies for the expedition had previously been engaged. 'Hero, the first serious ridge lay before them, the climb up the Zoji-la being a matter of 11,300ft., and baving surmounted this, the explorers found the next stage the march up the valley of the lodus to Skardu, comparatively free from diffically. Then followed a difficult and try path by way of baigar and the Bultaro glacier, where is, perhaps, the most formidable group of glaciers in the world. Here, however, they had their goal, the unconquered peak of Ki before their eyes, wad ogether they spent over two months in the UCWS. In the ["attempt to climb mount Godwie Austen, of K2, as it in labelled in the trigonometrical survey of India, in which the Duke broke all previnus mountaineering record, only the Duke and his personal staff and three guides ander. Mr. Petigan, who has accompanied H. R. H. on several of his previous explorations, took part. The guides bave been staying in Bam- bay for some time, but the Duke and his staff only arrived on Wedossday, having visited Agra and Delhi on route. The party have made a thorough survey of the whole system of stupendous glaciers of which Bultara i the centre and the meteorological and other valu ∙able observations obtained will be of unique interest to science; while hundreds of photo- graphic negatives and several cinematograph film pictures have been obtained. In spite of the incessant exposure of the last four months 'and the bardships endured, all the party look
