Dhingra walked without any assistance from the warders in attendance. The final pre- parations were quickly and expeditiously per- formed, and, at a given signal, -the bolt was drawn.
The execution was carried out in the pres- ence of the Under-Sheriff, Capt. Axles (the Deputy Governor of the Prison) Dr. Forward (medical officer), and Chief Warder Bostock. Dhingra, who was of spare build, was given a' drop of about eight feet. Dealb was stated to have been instantaneous, and the execution to have beau carried out in all respecta satisfactori- y Pierpoint was the executioner.
A considerable number of people assembled outside the prison, on the main, entrance of which the usual printed nolice was subsn, quently posted notifying that the sentence had been carried out according to law.
Dhing some days ago petitioned the Home Secretary to allow his body to be cremated, bat the request was refused.
Dhingra made no statement of any kind whatever. A large body of plain clothes police officers were told off for special duty within the precincts of the prison ibis morning, as a pre cantion against any attempted outrage.
