As it is at present things certainly look very gloomy for all shareholders, when ose con- siders the very keen competition the Wham? poa Dock Company has to face in its rival the Taikoo Dock and also the Northern Dock which concern recently displayed grest keenness in snatching from our very grasp as it were the contract from, Manila for Jepairing the transport Warres and also many other contracts, which could no doubt have been secured by our Dock.Company had the man-
agement made a determined, effort to succeed
in the bidding.
From a general point of view, it seems that the Directors are plugging headlong into a scheme, of re-organization without knowing to, result, and as it is at present there is bare what extent they would benefit by the ultimate,
by anything done yet; The huge sum of $37.776.34 is put down in the balance sheet as "Cost of Reorganization to 30th June 1909 and one can hardly demur from the fact that granting the re-organization of the whole concern should prove successful from certain points of view, yet financially there is a wide- spread belief that it may prove a disastrous failure; and the Directors should have ascertain ed the views of shareholders and given them careful consideration before going to the us.. necessary expense of engaging the services of an expert from Home thereby throwing away the substance for the shadow.
Is glancing over the report and balance sheet for the past six months, one can hardly admit that the Company is in the same sound position as it was a few years back. A most important factor for serious consideration is that the amount due to creditors is put down at $4,941,123.42 whereas in the report for the concluding six months of, 1908, it was only Instead of this item showing a decreasc, it is Sr,851,657.83 showing an increase of $89,465.19
continually rising and it would be meat interesting for all concerned to know when the Directors will be able to liquidate soma of this buge loan.
In thanking you for the use of your space can only add, in conclusion, that the Directors owe a duty to the shareholders in giving them a very clear explanation at Monday's meeting and I sincerely trust they will be able to give satisfactory assurances of the Company's future prospects. Yours, etc,

According to the decision in this case, of the Patent Bureau published in the Official Gasrila of the roth instant, the petitioner melalaided that the trade-mark filed by the foreign firm in question consisted of the English words “Óri ginal Express" used on sewing machings and that as these, waids were hablíually used among sewing machins dealers in their | trade they could not be registered. That they
were so used was oyidout from the fact that.... the large number of catalogues of sewing ma cblnes issued by makers in Europe and America contained, almost without exception, the words "Original Express" or "Express" relerting, to the machines, and also that the German Patent Butonu refused the registration of the word in question as a trade-mark, interpreting it asa, common name of goods among sawjog diachipe ".. dealdia.
