THE Russian Ambassador in Tokia is said to have approached the Japanese Government with a suggestion that no time should be fast io, settling the various questions outstanding between Russia-and Japan, so as to remove every source of international friction.. CHAN FUK, a shop coolic of 137, Des Voeux Road West, was charged in the Police Court, to-day (13th inst.), with the larceny of a bag of dried lily roots, valued at $4. CHENG MUX, a foremma of cooties residing at Elgia Street, paid a visit to a miner, Chan Yau, who is employed on the Canton-Kowloon Railway, on the 7th instant. When Cheng took his departure, Chan discovered that his box had been forced npen and S100 in notes missing. A report to the Sham-shui-po police followed, and Cheng was arrested last Monday, with a portion of the money in his possession. On being charged with theft in the Police Court, on Tuesday, and an being found guilty... he was sentenced by Mr. F. A. Hazeland to suffer three months' imprisonment and six hours in the stocks.
THE Seattle Poit-Intelligenter of the 16th ali. reports:At the navy yard, Paget sound, the Great Norbera liner Minnesota was examined by the surveyore yesterday while workmen took out the broken port tail shall, which snapped while the big vessel was steaming from Yoko hama, to Seattle. The shaft is being removed through the vessel and a spare shaft will be installed without delay. It is expected that this work will not take more than two days, the broken shaft having been removed ready to go inta service as soon as the new piece of steel is placed in position. On the approaching departure from Japan of Mr. and Mrs. A. Collaço, the members of the Portuguese community and their families gathered at the residence of Mr. P.
