SOME INTERESTING VIEWS.
H.E. Tang Shan-yi, in a conversation yester day morning, says the N. C. D). News of zand June, gava vent, to some interesting views on the queition of currency reform in China. His journeys in Europe led him from London, where he arrived from "America at the end of last January, to Paris, thence to Rome, Vienna, Berlin, St. Petersburg and Brussels. During last year 282 permits were issued under the provisions of the Sunday Cargo. Working Ordinance compared with 348 in 1907. Of those 117 were not used as it was found on necessary to work cargo on the Sunday, and the fees in such cases were refunded. In one case the fee paid was refunded, although the permit was used. an account of bad weather haying detained the ship, and in another case half the fes was refunded for the same reason.
The revenue collected under this heading amounted to $18,600 as against 541,250 la 1907. The general depression in, trade being the
obvious cause of the decrease.
