The Govt of Hongkong, have reports to

Gent

under date of the 10th of June last, that the French Ship "Omer et Julie" had arrived at that Colony from Saigon with 50 Chinese supposed to have been deported thence by the French Authorities.

I am directed by H. M's Principal Secy of State for Foreign Affairs to bring to the notice of the French Govt the conduct of the Captain of the "Omer et Julie", in landing in the Colony of Hong Kong 50 destitute Chinese without any provision for their maintenance. I am moreover instructed to request that enquiry may be made into the matter, and that steps may be taken to prevent the repetition of such a proceeding.
