271 - You should not press for any concession that will exclusively benefit Hong Kong: such for instance as that made by the latter part of Article 8 of Sir R. Alcock's Convention, rather than any other.
You will not fail to keep me fully informed of whatever may pass between you and the General, or the government of the Colony.

I received your note from Canton dated the 2nd June. You mention that the General Governor Suling has told you that the Yamen had sent him a copy of a reply to my enquiries regarding the new Rules.
