I am directed by the Earl of Kimberley,

Secretary of State to transmit to you,

to be laid before

the accompanying translation of a note from the Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a representation made to him on the 8th ult., by Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Lisbon, in compliance with Lord Granville's instructions,

upon the subject of the burning of the Coolie Ship "Don Juan".
