Sweden and the United States are noted for -the number of divorcas taking place there, and yet their numbers are insignificant in the ince of the Japanese figures. In the United States divorces,were only 25 per 10,000 marri ed couples in 1886, and the yearly average of Swades from 1886 to 1897 was 20.9.

The divorces taking place in these three periods 'logether comprise more, than 70 percent, of the whole number. Another tendency--dot shown in the table-is the.decline in the number of divorces in the period from 20 to 25, and the increasing tendency in the next five years, This is attributed to the fact that marriages of -man under-25-years-of-age-era-becoming-less- frequent than formerly.
