SOME COMPARISONS..
For this information there is much indebted ness to Dr. C. W. Andrews, F.R.S1 of the Natural History Museum (British Museum) London.
D-Andrews, who occupies a high place in the world of science to-day, has devoted much of his time to a study of those forms of animal life which are of interest and importance where the occupation of, and development by, while people, of strange lands, has taken place, During 1897-8 Dr. Andrews spent a-period of

Wood at the Police Court, this morning, when Lieut. Charles Mullins, of the Mahratta Light Infantry, charged a bnatwoman with refusing to accept a fare when offered one on the zgib October fast.
Bukut Singh, as fading constable, said that at abouri2.45 mideight on the 26th October, the complainant asked him to hire a boat for him, wear the Kowloon Ferry Wharf, as the latter wished to proceed to Hongkong. EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED ON NIKE CHILDREN.
IS THE ORIGIN DOVINE OR HUMAN,
A most interesting experiment is proceeding in Washington in connection with the later national Tuberculosis Congress, and one which it is expected will have a decided bearing upon the settlement of the question, as to whether human beings are, susceptible to contagion from animals suffering from tuberculosir.
Dr. Detre, professor of bacteriology at the Budapest University, read a paper recently, lo which he described how be had-inoculated ploe children taken from Hospitals in Hungary with serum which he has discovered, and which be declared would demonstrate within twenty- four hours whether a patieṛt was suffering from aníinal or buman tuberculosis. He urged for ther demonstration in the interests of science, declaring that its value lay in showing the proper remedy to be applied.
