Lloyd for the first quarter of the present year shows a great falling off in the revenue of the Company compared with the previous years.
The difference between the returns this year and the corresponding period of 1907. is no less that eleven million marks (£550,000), due, it is conlanded, to the depression of trade through- aut Europe.

The reason adduced, for the diminutios of earnings is the juniversal trade depression, but it is believed that the ceration of the boom and the consequent fall- ing off of emigration, and increased working expenses, owing to a higher scale of wages and _the_enhanced_cost of coal, are also important
