It appears from a communication received, for Manil from the British Legation at Peking that, according to such statistici as are available, the number of coins, minted In Chios during 1907 amounted to 2,999,7 8,173, as compared with 3,127,331,734 during 1906. These figures, however, can only be regarded as approximate, for retures of the coldage at thrên (out of the twenty-seven) mints in 1966 and at one mint in 1907 were not obtainable, while absolute aci curacy in the figures given for the other minta is by no means ärtured. During 1937 sevejal copper mints were closed and the output of others was much restricted Io 1905, *6,918,128,148 coins were minted, and of those 6,585,807,981 wara ta-cash copper places, and jo-1905, the latter amounted to 3,054,926,348 out of a total coloage of 3,127,131,734 coins. Ip 1904, the issue of these ro-cash pieces, was considerable, and this, together with the output in 1905 and 1976, caused, serious depreciation of the coins, necessitating restrictions belog placed on the warkin; of the minta ho 1907 when of the total coiuage of 1,099,718,373 pinces the number of rocash copper coins was 1,99%,115,317. Ar the restrictions impoved in 1957 pravel insufficient to appreciate to any extent the valua of these copper coins, an Im- perial Decree was issued on March 29, 1908, suspending their coloage at all the mists for alow moothe until exchange recovered its Jovel...
