NTON DAY BY DA
CANTON HANKOW RAILWAY..
[From Our Own Gerṛarpondent,}"
Canton, 23rd September. In consequence of the appointment of HB Chang Chib Tong as Superintendent of the Capton-Hankow Railway and the working of the Company being unsatisfactory the share holders in Capton as well as those in Shangs hai and Hankow are fearing that the railway might one day be put under the direct control
of officials, and consequally they refused to pay the second call of shares at $1.50 each. Sir Chen Tung Liang Cheng, president of the Railway Company, yesterday, accompanied by Kum Kun Ching, left here for Shangbai to ap. proach the railway shareholders: there in per- son, with the view of appeasing their minds and paraunding them to pay their second in. stalment of the capital. » ...
ROBBERY,
The arrest of a miscreant at Wongsba the
other day, who was suspected to have had a hand in the robbery committed in a wealthy man's house in Lo Pai Hong Street in the Wasters suburb as reported, led to the arrost of another robber named Chan Chỉ Nam by the police. At the trial yesterday at the police station the latter captive pleaded guilty and he has also disclosed the names of six of his comrades. The police are now employing their best efforts to apprehend the rest of the culprits.
