Messis Lamke and Regge who in their GRAND PROMENADE CONCERT fortnightly report of z5th July:--
There is no improvement to report in the condition of the freight market, which in every direction wretchadly dull, and inactive, Bome of the rates of freight accepted 'during the past, fortnight again illustrate to what straits owners are reduced to provide employ- ment for their boats, and the employment, when secured, often means that the vessels are actually being run on a losing basis. This applies in particular to the boats that nowadays find themselves under the necessity of proceeds ing in ballast to their port of loading. Need- less to say, steamers of all sizes çaptinue to be unemployed!
Saigon Hongkong:-Early during the period under review three steamers managed to se cure engagement at rå cents per picul, but latterly not even 13 cents has been obtainable. "From Saigon to Philippines and Saigen to N.C. Java a fixture each has taken place for forward loading at ao cents per picul. Another charter has been arranged from Salgos to Singapore, en lump sum basis, rate working qut at a fraction over 13 cents.
Bangkok/Hongkong-A 2,000 teas carrier is reported settled on "liners" terima.e
Javal. 'ongkong freights remain dead, From Newchwang to Canton a C. N. Co.'s steamer has been fixed for a pari cargo of 'se) 13 coɔ picula at zo cepta.
To load hence to Singapors Norwegian su. Drufur has been engaged at $4 000 in full,
Coat freight frem Japas continue at bare- munerative figures with next to nothing doing Only one charter has been drawn from Moji to this port at $1.30. ...
The following other coal fixtures are on re- cord: Labuan to Swatow at $2.15, Palolaut to Kobsichang at $1.15, Hongay to Canton at $1.45
