Mr. Muskelt, who represented the Com-HARTMANN'S RAUTIENS GENUINE missioner of Police, said, that the defendants were all chargol with obstructing the police in BRAND, HARTMANN'S GREY PAINT the execution of their duty.'

The case against Elizabeth Knight was taken first, and a police-sergeant stated that when he arrested her she said that she wanted to be locked up.

As this was ber first offence, the magistrate bound the defendant over jo the sum of 238, to' come up for judgment, if called upon.

Cecile Molony was the pext defendant. It ́s stated that nothing was known against her aviously. --------

---The magistralė remarked that he was glad. to hear that nothing of the kind had happened before, and he hoped it would oof happen again.

The Defendant: 1ăm very much afraid it will happen again." (Laughter.)

She was also bound.over in 305, to come up for judgment if called upon during the next. three months, --" -

The Defendant: I don't want to be bound over in any way.

The Magistrate: Very well, then; you must had one surely in 201, la default seven days' imprisonment in the second division.

Miss Ibbotson has been previously convicted, and the magistrate now bound her over in her own recognisances of 455, and ordered her to fed one surety of 40s, or go to prison for twenty one days in the second division.

The Defendant (promptly); | Twenty-one days.

Irene Miller, the next defendant, another old -offender, was also bound-over-and ordered to fiod a surety in zos. to keep the peace or go to prison for twenty-one days,

The Defendant: Of course, I shall go to prison,

Elizabeth Gibbs bad nothing to say, and as this was her first offence she was bound over lo

her own recognisances of 203, to come up for judgment if called upon.

The defendant said she refused to be bound

In the case against Nelly Bacon, a constable xid that he had to use force to get her off the doorstep of No. 10, Downing-street.

The defendant taid she went to see her friend, Dr. Knight, and moved on when told to do so. A solicitor who appeared for the defendant said that she was a journalist end had no com- section, whatever with the Suffragist move ment. She was arrested merely because she complained of the police pushing her off the pavement.

The magistrate bound her over in her own recognisances of acs, to come up for judgment il called upon. ---

The Defendant? I absolutely decline to be bound over. I am an innocent person. Why ́abould i be bound over when 'l'baven't broken'

the law?

The Magistrate : Then find one surety of 208., or fourteen days in the second.division.

It was afnewards stated that the defendant Knight declined to be bound over, and the Alternative in kar caia was also Èzed at four: leen days', in the second division.
