THE ANNUAL REPORT. The Norddeutscher Lloyd in the last of the great. German steamship enterprises to pre- sent its annual report. From a dividend point of view it is worse than that of the Hamburg- American Company, for the distribution is at the rate of 41 per cent, compared with ŝi per dent, lor 19.6. The causes assigned are those with which we are getting pretty familiar. Rata wars, the American financial crisis, arrest of emigrant traffic, Strikes, and dear coal-these all find mention as contributing to bring about a disappointing year. More business has been done, both in passengers and freight, but the profit has been less. For this reason, among others, the directors of the Norddeutscher Lloyd welcome the agreements recently entered inte with competing companies an ensuring a tran quil and profitable development of business during the current year. The four years' agree ment with the Hamburg-American Line is re- ferred to as foreshadowing the profitüble co- operation of both companies."
