The meeting was held at the Mitsui Club on the 18th instant. Among those, present were Mr. Matsuda, Minister of Finance; Mr. Mixa- machi, Vice-Minister of Finance, and Mr. Katsuda, Director of the Finance. Administra tive Bureau in the Finance Department; Mr. Hayakawa, General Director of the Mirai Bauk; Baron Matsuwo, Governor of the Bisk of Japan; Baron Takabashi, Vice Governor of the Bank of Japan; Baron Shibusawa; Mr. Sonoda, President of the Nobles' Bank; Mr.
Toyokawa, of the Mitsu Bishi Bank; Mr. Ikeda,
President of the tooth Bank, and other leading bankers.
The bankers expressed the hope that the re demption of the first issue of the War Bonds (Kokko-Sqiken), amonning to Y100,000,000, should be hastened with the object of relieving the financial situation, which continued to grow worse and WOISE. la reply, Mr. Matsuda, Minister of Finance, addressing those present in a most cordial mannet, admitted that undoubtedly the present ecopo mic situation could not be regarded altogether, with optimism, but he was inclined to think that the public was overpessimistic regarding it. He expressed great sympathy with the hope entertained by the bankers that the re demption of the first issue of the War Bonds might be speedily consummated. The Minis ter deprecated, the cherishing of doubts that
