Our last circular was dated the 21st February. The yarn market during the past fortnight tuled

| very steady and in fulfilment of anticipa tions country orders have been readily arriving resulting in the off-lawe being even better than is the preceding fortnight. The demand was both for "forward" and "spot " cargo ;-settle- ments of the former amount to no less than 4.000 bales. Current prices ruled as on date of last report with a few exceptions in the case of the more fancied spinnings which advanced S: per bale. This appreciation might have been greater. The further discount in the rate of Chinese subsidiary coins, and the high price of rice in Canton, and neighbouring dis triers militated against higher prices.

THE Neamer. Albatross, of the United States Fisheries Commission, is now being used in the Jolo waters to locate and determine the pearl beds, This work will engage the atten- |tion of the experts for some time. Mr. Seat, who is the insular government representative on the boat, has already done a large amount of technical work on the formation of pearls. He is very familiar with the work the Japanese have done in stimulating the oysters to produce pearl and will do much to advance the supply in the Jolo, waters In the southern waters there are schools of small fish about the sixe of sardines. These schools will be located And the Alontross will work through the Tawi, at the same time attempts are being southern witers from Zamboanga to Tami made to Incato deep sea fish,
