The year on the whole has been a most dis- appointing one owing to the general depres sion in trade; the decrease in amount of work/ being about 20 per cent as compared with.

At the suggestion of a shareholder at the last annual meeting we have had our fleet, valued by Mr. W. Paulsen, Lloyd's--surveyor, and although his figures are somewhat below the 1906, amount shewn in our balance sheet it must be borne in mind that the value of a fleet, such as ours must fluctuate in accordance with the rise or fall in the cost of shipbuilding, wages, ma- terial, etc. The directors, however, are satise fed that we possess an assal in our property account fairly representing the price at which it stands. We are, as you will sed by the ac counts, building up a reserve and deprecia- tion fund which to day

day amonats to Tls. 75,000 and it will be the policy of the direct; ors to add steadily to this fund annually. as circumstances, permit.
