DOUGHT FOR AMERICA,

Debenham, Storr, and Company's sale rooms: at Covent Garden were crowded this afternoon (January 30), when the second portion of the cario collection of the late Mr. T. G. Middle- brook was sold. ~;

The most interesting lot was the flag of the Chesapeake, which was hauled down in the engagement with H.M.S. Shammon, ID Boston Bay in 1813. Mr. Middlebrook ́bought it by private treaty at the same sale rooms seven ∙years ago, and its appearance in the auction room now was the occasion of a very spirit ed competition. The bidding started at the modest sum of £30, which a gentleman with a strong American accent thade from the back of the room. By s at a time, then twenties, the bidding rose to £400; then by fifties the contest was carried on by the American gentle; man and no English, dealer. The latter. prevailed at £850, sed the tattered and time- stained flag was knocked down amid cheers at that figure. "Which side of the Atlantic?"

some one called out "This laconically replied the buyer, and the cheer was renewed, It is, however, a short-lived gratification, for we are informed that the ultimate 'destination
