*HONGKONG'S SYMPATHY. RESOLUTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Before proceeding with the business at the meeting of the Legislative Council bald this afternoon, his Excellency: Sir Frederick Lugard moved a resolution palhaleg with Portugal on the recent calamity. He said that Portugal was allied with Great Britain, and the relation between the lata King of Portugal and King Edward had been friendly, it being quite recently that he had been a welcomed visitor to London. W. H. Manners, formerly a storeksepar is the Hongkong add Whampoa Dock Company Limited, brought an action before Mr. Justice Wise, in the Supreme Court, this morning, to recover from F. H. Cornell, an electrician, of Messrs. Canton, 5th February. After the occurrence of the great fire, which took place in Tung Hing Street in the kerosene oil stores, when over fifty buildings were burnt to the ground, special arrangements were made for the storage of the bit and a jetty was arect- ed exclusively for the landing of the oil in the hope that accidents of a like ṇature is the future will oot occur again.
