Since Monday last Mr. William King, wharf manager of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Board; Singapore, has been in Liverpool. As is well koown a vast scheme of improving the ship- ping and coaling facilities at Singapore bas been projected, at an aggregate cost of some £8,000,000 s'erllog. Mr. King in visiting all- the large parts of the United Kingdom, the Continent and of the Mediterranean, as far as Trieste, to pick up "polsters," which might be of value in connection with the proposed Improvements at Singapore. The Liverpool dock authorities have taken pleasure in showing Mr. King every courtesy. Yesterday morning he went to sen the coaling of the Texan, of the Leyland Lina, by one of the Clarke automatic barges and he was; much interested to see the way that the coaling process went on simultaneously with and in proximity to the working of the cargo, without interference. Mr. King is a Northum brian, and is well known by the shipping people
of Middlesbrough and the other North-Extern. ports.
