PERKS TRAGIC DEATH.

LORD CHESHAM KILLED IN THE HURTING FIELD.

The opening week of the hunting season has been marred by a terrible accident. On Satur- day afternoon i ord Chesham was thrown from his horse and killed while following the, Pych- ley Hounds, reports the Morning Leader of Itih ult.

The meet on Saturday morning was al Daventry, and there a large field assembled to greet the master, Loid Annaly,, many: dim tinguished members of the hunt being present, among them Lord Chesham. During the moining the pack, hunted by Badley Wood and taverton, Eur towards three o'clock in the afternoon they worked round the outskirts of Daventry, in the, direction of Welton.

Near Daventry Reservoir, about a mile and a half from the town, hounds got on the line of a fox, and hunted him across a wheat field. Then he doubled back, and it was after the doable and on reaching the fence bordering the field, that Lord Chesham met his death.

TRIED TO. TAKE THE FENCE. Only two members of the hunt apppar to have been anywhere near to his lordship whop the accident happened, One of these, Mr. W Rhodes, of Flore Fields-a nephew by the way, of the late Cecil Rhodes-had cleared the fence; the other, Captain Beatty, of Nonh Kit worth, was in the wake of Lord Chesham.

A bold, fearless rider Lord Chesham put, his horse at the fence,.a'sioutly-built, buṛ by nà means formidable, obstacle, but the horse did not rise.

די

Immediately a search was made, and the body of the murdered girl found in the very pot palated out. Staplos was then asked if he

the affirmative. "Can you see him?"

"Yes, there he is, the second mas ́in the boat over there," he exclaimed, pointing to the ac cupier of the collage, who was engaged drag. ging the dam at the time.

When the man, named Kerr, came to the bank; he was arrested and charged with the murder.

At the inquest which followed, much circum- stantial evidence was given against the accused, and a verdict of wilful murder was returned, but no evidence, of the clairvoyant's part in the discovery was permitted by the coroner,
