WEST RIVER PATROL.,
The West River policing agitation has as sumed a distinctly new feature. Yesterday telegram was sent to Peking by the female students of Canton. The despach was the outcome of a meeting held at the Kuan Yuk Ladies College in the western suburb. There were prevent some three hundred ladies and girl students. At this meeting several ladies and school instructresses made, speeches on the question and the majority expressed the seati ment that the female section pf the community must devote all their power to have the control of the patrol service restored to China, even if there should be a great deal of difficulty.

Two days ago, a junk, fully loaded with a- cargo of goeds coming to Fatsbau from the of Weichow, was pirated whilst passing city near the district of Ho Yuen, As the pirates presented themselves, foʻ large numbers, the crew of the junk did not offer, any resistance, and the marauders made off with a large quantity of booty valued at over $1,700. CANTON-HANKOW RAILWAY.
The Canton-11ankow Railway (Hunan and Hupeh sections) bas' forwarded a selegram to the Canton office stating that foreign railway engineers have now been engaged by that Company and that work on the construction of, the railroads in that province is about to be -- commenced, but they have not yet collected sufficient capital' to meet the expenditure ie quired for the undenaking. In the telegram the Company requested the Canton Company to effect a load of from two to three million dollars in order to enable them to carry out the

·CANTON RIVER bridge compaNY IN LIQUIDATION.
Owing to the untimely death, some two months ago, of Mr. Lau Chin-ting, tha manaj. ing director of the Canton River fron Bridge Company, of which he was the promoter with sufficient capital to carry out the work, and work on the construction of the bridge was about to be commenced, the company is to go into liquidation. This step was resolved upon at a meeting held yesterday at the company's office al Houam, when all the principal share bolders wore present. It was agreed that the company be dissolved and that the capital be returned to the shareholderṛ.
