RACE GRIFFINS BON "HONGKONG,
ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST TON
25th inst. The first batch of race griffins, numbering" sixteen in all, arrived in the Colony last night from Tientsin, by the Indo-China Steam Na rigation Company's steamer Cheong Shing, and were landed at West Point this mor.ing-Mr. G. W. Gegy, manager of the ilongkong Horte Repository, supervising the landing. The griffins, we are informed, belong to a well-to-do cative borse dealer of Shanghai, who has brought them here for sale. This is a new feature in the matter of purchasing race griffins, and one which is bound to prove a success, as it gives Hongkong racing men a chance of seeing what they are buying.
The ponies are a nice looking tot and appear to be in sound condition: They are big animals, ranging from 13hd. to 13.2. They will be sold by public auction, by Messrs. "Hughes, and Hough, on 28th inst.
Id reference to our renori last Monday of the arrival of the first batch of sace griffins, the following paragraph from the Chid's Critic of 16th inst. will be of interest to our sporting readers: fie lot of some fify Chinese ponlas were shipped last night on J. M. Cheong Shing for Hongkong. Among this mub were some of the finest ponies that have ever come down to this port, and it is a pity that some of our Incal sportsmen did not have a pick out of them before they were sent away Routh for auction.
