In conclusion, he stated, that if a man was found to be in possession of forged notes by allempting to pass ont, the onus was on him to give an account-a reason'ble account -of how they came in his possession-failing he was held fully responsible. The accused failed to tender a reasonable excuse, and it iwas for the jury to decide whether he forged the

Accused denied the forgery. He admitted, however, having the bill in his possession; uttering two and attempting to pass tile third, but refuted the accusation of knowing that the bills were forged while in bis possession.
The jury brought in a verdict of guilty on the three counts and Mr. Justice Wise passed. sentence of five years' hard labour on each charge-sentence' to run concurrently
