REMARKABLE CASE OF REASON, IN

#A DOMESTIC PET.

The old problem, " Can dogs' reason ? " is revived by a remarkable story which comen from Holloway."

A fine Japanese collie, owned by a gentle man living near Camden rd., have earned distinction for itself by lis habit of trotting

round daily to a valerinary surgeon to be doctored. Suffering from painful ulceration the ears, it was taken to the surgery of Mr. Marcus Blevenson, the veterinary surgeon, of Camden rd, Holloway, for treatment about five weeks ago. Exch-evening for, three or four days "Roy" was inken there by his master.

MASTER OF HIS FORTUNES,ANA. Then Roy decided that in future he would not wait for his master to take him to the surgery. One evening, directly, the door of his bonis was opened, Roy dashed out alors. In a few minutes be bounded, all alone, joto. Mr. Stevenson's surgery half a mile away.

"No one was more surprised than I was," Baid Mr. Steventon to a "Morning Leader" representative'yesterday, to see the dog rush through, the doorway, jump calmly on the operating table, and wait for me to attend 10 him. I expected to see his master follow him Steam Launches of Steel or Woods Lighters, Steel Buildings and Roofs, Bridge into the surgery, but no-Master Roy had Work, and all kinds of Machinery arn made on the premises...

-The plant and tools are of recent patterns for dealing quickly and cheaply with work and a'large stock of material is always ai bànd, (plates and anglas all being tested by Lloyds' surveyors),

Two pawadul Twin Scłow Towboats are available for taking Vessels in or ogt of Dock, and for taking Sailing Vessels in or out of the bay. The floating derrick is capable of lifting 35 tons.

Tonders. will be made up when required and the workmanship and material will be guaranteed.

At once, withoni baving to be prompted, he turned his head so that I should commence with the right ear," continued Mr. Stavenson, "and after the mixture had eased bis right ear he at once bant forward and turned the left for the same treatment." Then, with a gratified bzik, the dog raced off home.

"I expected his ears had pained him, and his fastinct had told him where he could, find relief, commented. Mr. Stevenson; "but you can judge my surprise when he came in just the same fashion, quae unaccompanied, the next evening, promptly jumpat on the opera ning-table na before, waited till he had received treatment, and then dashed off home again."

A DAILY VISIT.

And so ever since the dog has tun round to the surgery practically every day and demand ed treatment. ""li'm quite unique, in all my experience," said Mr. Stevenson. "1 could understand a dog coming of his own accord for a pleasant syrup or some palatable or plea. sant doctoring but the treatment of canker is necessarily painful, and practically every dog who is treated for it has to be carried or dragged into the place after his first experiencs of it.

while Mr. Stevenson was speaking, a shrill bark and a great canine commotion at the door nanounced the unexpected arrival of Roy-for one more operation. Directly the door was flung open, the sagacious animál sprang upon the operating-table, and looking up into the P.M. 17th Oct., 1907. veterinary surgeon's face, whined eagerly.

Mr. Stevenson stroked Roy's head, but Roy whined all the more ́eagerly and impatiantly till his left hand touched the familiar bottle of car-lotion. And then a succession of short, sharp baiks plainly indicated that that was the
