most interesting feature of the campaign le the evidence it gives of an aroused pubic sentiment. A Shanghai correspondent" of the New York Evming' Port writes that the crusade is rolling like a grant ma' wave over the whole of China. Anti-oplum socie ties have been formed' everywhårs and are | the multiplying rapidly, In' several places there were great popular demonstrations whoo the dens were closed. A hopeful sign is that many educated young men have entered tuto the movement heart and soul, with the idea of elieving their country and its people of a terrible burden,
Possibly, therefore, much good may come out of the evil through this great awakening. The reformers will be tried 'in a persistent warfare"
The cost of Docking, and repair work, will be found to compare favourably with that extending over years. They are likely to feel of any port in the world.
