From information supplied by one or two of the older residents in Kobe, we learn that Mr. Rizetti once took part in a performance of " II Trovaters" under the, conductorship of the composer, Verdi, and fiter served as a bands. man in the lalian and French navien. In the latter he took part in the Tonkin war. He then found his way to the United States, where he joined the American Navy, and on arrival at Yokohama on board the sidewheeler "Monacoshi" he left the sea and settled down ashore I got a band together at Yokohama -the firt Japanese band to perform in the norther port-und for some time played nightly at the. Grand Hotel. Some 17 or 18 years ago le came to Kobe, and with the assistance of the foreign community he organised the well known Rizzeiti's Band here. At that time,

Mr. Rizzeti showed wonderful ability and skill in training Japanese musicians in Euro-11 pran music, and many of the sailor bands established in Japan at the present time can trace their origin to pour " Professor "Rizzetti.
About six years ago a benefit concert was given in Kobe, with the proceeds of which Mr. Rizzeti bought new instruments, etc., and took over the band as his own concern,--relying. upon the generosity of the community, when submitting his subscription list and on various private engagements from time to time. For some time past the veterin conductor's health fasces failing, bulit was not, until recently that he at last became too ill to wield the baton. He was then admitted to the Interna- tional Hospital, but despite the best medical attention he expired, as stated above, on Mon
