C..M, Colterman, director of the insular posts, upon the suggestion of the Postmaster General of Hongkong, has in a circular letter called the attention of all steamship companies with agencies in this post to their irreguir and illegal practice of having ship's letter boxes in their office filled with general correspondence. This practice is general in Manila as well as Hongkon, and is due no doubt to an over sight on the part of the companies. AN accident, which ended fatally to a Chinese fireman, occurred the other day while the steamship Tathan was on her way to Hong- kong from Australian ports. Ore of the fire men, it appears, while at work lost his balance and fell into the stakehold.
