fusds for this scheme are to come from is not stated, but it is probable that the local Govern ment: will raise a loan. The idea, from what can be gathered, is to fill 'in the whole of the foreshore from a certain water mark, and ite limit of the length for this prospective hund, will, ha from the Fuh Ho to, the old Native Customs station. The foreshore after being filled in will he piled and a stone sea wall erected. Such a scheme, if realized, will greatly improve Wuchow, but it will be a stupendous undertaking and will entail very careful management and supervision. A preliminary survey has already been $11,750,000.00 mide, so it is said, and the Government expect to realize a very handsome return on $11,750,000.00 || thir venture, by sub-letting various, plots and ❘ 723]
portions of the bund for building purposes. A langs mates, it is said, will be one of the prin Cipal features of this new scheme. Consi derable doubt is expressed locally upon such a venture being realized. The merchants, whilst welcoming the Governor's scheme, seem to think that the occasion will warrant the officials in instituting a new tax of some sort and, needless to say, this is not looked forward to with any pleasurable anticipation.

While the bazaar was in full swing on Sun- day at about 9 pm, the electric lighting service failed and left the stalls in witer darkness for about half an hour, when li,his were restored by means of a couple of Kitson lampk.
The Bazaar was well patronized, the Gov- ernor of Macao and his wile and hundreds of Hongkong residents being present. The streets leading to the gardens were prettily decorated with flags and Japanese lanterns. There was a five display of fireworks in the evening, and everything went off smoothly. The bazaar should prove a great success financially.
