The years 1900 to 1932 were productive of a large number of city and state provisional issues in the colonial republic. These were on acenust of interrupted communication due to, insurrection in the land.
The Cretan rebellion and Turco-Grecian
war brought about the occupation of the island by British and Russian troops in 1898 and 1899. As a result of British occupation Cyprus issued special stamps to 1893.
The Soudan stamps of 1897 were due to the reconquest of Soudan provinces by Anglo- Egyptian forces.
France's stamps of 1870 were lithographed, at Bordeaux account of the investment of Paris by the Gernian army.
Germany's Alsace-Lorraine stamps of the same year were for use in newly conquered French provinces.
At the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian war, and simultaneously with the proclamation of a united German empire, the empire stamps of Germany made their appearance in 1871.
The overthrow of President Sam and the
establishment of a provisional goveroment in Bayt in 1901 was the occasion of a new surg charge of the stamps of that little rapublic.
·UBED BY CHINESE EXPEDITION, India chotributes an interesting stamp to the gallery of war issues in the form of a little envelope sticker surcharged "C. E. F." This issue was due to the dispatch of Indian troops to China during the Boxer rebellion, and the initials stand for "Chinese expeditionary force."
The Russo-Japanese war was responsible for several additions. to philately, Japan has issued a stamp in recognition of her assump tion of authority in Kores, as a result of that war, and got out another stamp to celebrate; the triumphant review of her military forces" engaged in the decisively won struggle. Russia, on her part, has issued a set of large charity stamps, all the proceeds from the sale of which have been applied to a fund for the widows and orphans of the mes slain in the war with Japan,
