dations being, as in previous years, especially Kalebu and floilo 17th Oct, Sugar and

severe in Jubbulpore-and Saugor. Much of the increase in the mortality is said to be due

to bettar reporting: but in the main, it is attri- bated to the gradual disappearance of game from the jungles. The fact that there has been 'a large increase in the destruction of human life end of cattle by leopards while at the same time the number of the latter denyed (925 'as compared with 739 in 1904) is much greater than before, is said to indicate that these des tructive animals seek their prey in the neigh bourhood of villages more readily than they for merly did in Eastern Bengal and Assam. The increased mortality in the Hill dindicts. is attributed to the ravages of wild dogs and in the plains districts to the heavy floods, which io some places forced wild animali to take re- fuge in the villages.

The number of wild animals destroyed reso from 16,122 in 1ọn tố” 16.91c; the number of tiger, leopards, beats, wolves and hyenas de- stroyed was 1,315 4:811, 2,235, 2,016 and 554. rospectively

The rewards paid, for the destruction of wild animals amounted to Rs. 127,665 as against Rt. 107,033 in 1904.
