The captain, however, still keeps the secret of the name of the island, and would only tall the Lender representative that it was much further aduth than Seal Island, The captain's opinion is that Seal Island is too far off the beaten track of stray diamonds. One theory of his is that the diamond studied (more or less) banks of the Orange river would, in the course of centuries, be gradually washed away when the river was in spate, and that the water, finding an outlet in the in, would be ...caught by the current, which runs at the rate of ten knots so twelve thereabouts, and which .would carry any deposit in the direction of such islands as Sinclair, Pomona, Halifax, Albatross rocki, etc.
