STRANDED OFF CAPSUEMOON. News was received in the Colony this morn! ing to the effect that one of the Franch river boats, for which the Messageries Maritimes are the local agents, had struck a rock near long- kong and was more or less seriously damaged A representative of the Felegraph called at the Company's office and was courteously informed by M. de Champeaux that the s,s Charles Hardouin had been disabled at Cap-sui-mun and so further particulars up to this afternoon had been obtained as to the extent of the daniago sustained by the vessel.
A visit to the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company's offices elicited the information that the tug Robert Coote was disembarking the Charles Hardouin's passengers and their loggage at Blake Pior.
On arriving at Blake Pier our reporter as certained that the Robert Cooke had already fulfilled her mission and was just then steaming

THE PAPERS. There is no doubt in my mind, continues Mr. Irving, that & really practical knowledge of the rudiments of hygiene has been acquired. That was my impression before the examina tion, the results of which only serve to confirm it. The best papers were full and accurate; the worst contained singularly little of the meaningless verbiage, which examiners learn to look for at the bottom of any considerable number of papers. On the contrary, the worst papers, wth few exceptions, gave me the idea that the writers were either struggling to ex- press a correct idea, though language failed At the Unim Church Literary Clubs last hem; or else they were in the position of one, night, Mr. Geo. Grinable lectured to a large who has fully comprehended an argument, but finds that he is unable to recollect all widence on the life of tandel-the great com the stages thereof, when he wishes to poser. The lecturer spoke at same length of reproduce it. Many faults also were faults.
