•Chope was driving home in his map in the evening, along with Mr. Allen, and when near the Teutonia Club one of the wheels of the vehicle collapsed, and the occupants were thrown out. Mr. Allen escaped with some bruises. Mr. Chope fell heavily on his side, Medical examination showed that in his foll Mr. Chope had broken two ribs, and that one of the fractured bones had slightly pierced the lungs. Next day every one was glad to hear that Mr. Chope's injuries were not considered serious and that his medical attendidis ware assured of his speedy recovery.

From day to day the reports as to his condi

sion continued to be favourable. Yesterday morning he was doing very well indeed, and. there seemed to be no reason to apprehend the fatal termination which has unhappily eccurred. Shortly after noon, however, be began to show'signs of sinking. At 7 p.m. be was in a critical condition, and although avery- thing possible was done to relieve him, he passed away shortly after one o'clock this mor ning.

The news of Mr. Chope's death was received a host of friends in Sogapore and to them in town to-day with universal sorrow, He had he had endeared himself by his fiee quali. Those well-known and valuable Sugar and Tapioca Estates, known as PRYE, BATU KAWAN and ALMA, situate in the Central and Southern Districts of Province Wellesley, comprising a total area of about 13,809 acres held under Government latutory Grants, Government Grants and Government Leases of which a total of about 6,787 acres are under callivation with all the buildings and fixed machinery and plant appertaining thereto.

THE PRYE ESTATE comprises an area of about 4,738 acres of which about 693 arres are cultivated for Sugar, about 296 acres are planted with Coconuts, about 237 acres are Paddy land, and about 938 acres are Fallow land. It was a large wreath on a round of white flowers; the square and com- passes in pink, tied with blue-and quite a Lodge St. George, work of art. This was sent by the officers of
