THE BRIDGE OF NIKKO,,

The hitcase was a representation of the Bridge of Nikko, which has so frequently been photographed. Along the sides, yellow city anthemums nodded their heads, emitting sweet perfume. The tops of the stair rails were crowned with golden dades after the fashion of the Nikko Bridge, near Tokyo. It was a capital idea to erect in Hongkong a facsimile of the Bridge which is so well known to the residents of the Japanese metropolis, and it will doubtless recall old associations to those of the party to-night who come from the Flowery Land:

... THE PROMOTERS OF THE BALL Allogether the City Hall Buildings have been decorated and embellished on a scale which is unusual for Hongkong. The Japanese com- (munity have proved beyond the shadow of a doubt their capacity for organisation and de- sign, and above all their ability to eclipse the majority of their rivals either in commercial acumen or social functions.
