The marriage problem is being attacked in a novel and, possibly, hopeful way from Manila, where an ingenious native is endea vouring to obtain a licence to conduct a matrimonial bureau for promoting Inter- race marriages. This is certainly a sign of the times, and if it can efficiently fulfil the services of a loyal agency many happy mar- riages may result and, as the local Times ob- serves, Manila and the Philippines may "soon be transferred into a sort of checkerboard garden of Eden where white Adams and brown Eves will be joined together in the
