On the 12th ult. in, the House of Commons on the repart of the vote of £2,768,300 for the dockyards.

Mr. Whitley moved the reduction of the vote by Lico by way of protest against further ex penditure on Wel-hai-wei, which he described as a bathing establishment. Though Wei-hai- zal had been given up as a naval base or a place of arms, yet last year, as well as this, the House was asked to sanction 'the' expenditure of large sums upon it.

Mr. Pretyman said it was a mistake to sup poan that Weihai wel was nothing more than bathing establishment. (Heat, hear.) It was the summer station for the Fleet in the
