The Burmese women wear wreaths of jasmi. se in their hair and fragrant frangipani stuck behind their ears. They laugh, and smoke their huge cigars, Airt gay scarfs, and wink with wicked oyes on all the world. They dress in little coast of sea-pod green and pink of rosa geranium, in cherry-ted and cow- ulips opening in the spring. They look like garden posies beside the sooty jewel-laden Tamil women, who, wear scant draperies and bear great jars of brass upon their heads. Other man and women are in this crowd, vendors of sweats and fruits with rou d red trays of lacquer

Wide temples rise at every turn carved deep in gold-red lacquer, and Buddhas in long rows itsmiling on their thrones. Shining balls of glass and tinsel hang from the law-browed eaves. Prayers break and drip from ups, beads slip through faithful fingers, and ever present are the echoing prayers of count- less generations gone before.
The great trees lifting through the pave ment have spread for ages shade upon this golden company, have softly stirred above the tiny temples, the peaked pagodas, and the tinkling bell-tipped towars. Through the slit Alm leaves the sunset swims in final glory. **Far below the circling wall lies Rangoon dim and hary, with gray mist-covered field between. Gold dust quivers thickly in the sunset in the air.
