IN September next, classes will be formed at Queen's College, longkong, for a higher course of education than is at present provided in class I. THE Lotal area of land devoted to the cultiva tion of wheat and barley last year in Japan was 180,393 cho, or 450,384 acres, and the y amounted to 19,642,242 koku. Compared wit the previous year there was an increase in the area of land cultivated of 1,546 cho, and of 6,097,137 koks, or 41 per cent, and compared with an average year an increase of 4,859 cha and of 316,741 koku, or 1.6 per cent. The bountiful yield last year was due to the increased acreage under cultivation and to the care taken- in culture.
