HONGKONG METEOROLOGICAL
SIGNALS.
A NEW CODE..
We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of mateorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same us those at present in uso ui Shanghai, and will be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Paint for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:-
A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony,
A cone point upwards and drum below in- dicates a typhoon to the North-East of the Colony.
A drum indicates a typhoon 10 the East of the Colony.
A cone point downwards and drum below
indicates a typkorn to the South-East of the
Colony.

The signals are repeated on the flagstaff of the Godown Company at Kowloon, and also, by day only, at the Uarbour Office and on M's Receiving Ship.
LOCAL STORM WARNINGS.
The Colony itself is warned of approaching typboons by means of the Typhoon Gun placed at the food of the must, which is fired whenever
a strong gale of wind is expected in blow here.

Informa tion of importance is also issued by "Express." THE CHINA COAST METEOROLOGICAL REGISTER is exhibited at the same places daily about noon.. It contains observations made at Hongkong and at a number of stations in the Far East, together with Remarks, Weather forecasts, and information regarding the exist pnes and movements of typhoons based thereon,
SPECIAL INQUIRIES,
Martars of vessels or their agents may, whenever necessary, call at the Telegraph Company's Office in Connaught Road and send telegrams to the Observatory asking for Such special information, without charge, inquiries may also be sent from the Police Station at Kowloon Point which is connected with the Observatory by telephone.
