To-day was the Naval Day and the mem bers of the Senior Service were represented in strong force. To do them honour the match for the Cup presented by the Officers of His Majesty's Flect brought out the cracks from John Peel's, G. H. Potis's, Buxey's, and Wingard's studs. The Cup was keenly contested and was taken by Norman King.
As on the first day the Governor (H. E. Sir Matthew Nathan, R.5., K.C.M.0,) arrived to witness the first race, Capt. Another bunch of eight was weighed in for the Professional Cup, and followers of Early Bird's 'selections found the first two horses accurately placed. Grafton was by the rails and got well away on the fall of the flag, and maintained a good lead past the stand and round to Bowrington. Croome, with Gresson up, was riding a pretty race and nearing the Rock, slipped up from the fourth place into the leading position and led the way for Grafton which he beat by half a length.

When the flig dropped Potts sent out Saxon King to do the pacing for Ledbury led with Empress of India Rose second, and Saxon King third. Going up the hill Saxon King ran quite ten lengths ahead of the field with Ledbury second and a Rose third Halifax kept well in the rear, G. H. The serious situation came in when they Gressan meanwhile watched him very closely and kept company gradually creeping up. well together. When passing the Rock Norman had attained third place, with Cotswold closely pursuing. The classic event of the day was certainly the Hongkong Derby which brought out a small field of ponies. Early in the training season Mr. John Peel's Cotswold was con- sidered to be the pony for the blue ribbond of the meeting without a match. had the largest number of backers. The start keenly fought contest. Of the twenty-one was a very good one. Lanark on the rails led animals originally entered, the names of eight appeared on the board. They all went to the post so that quite an interesting race was witnessed. When they were ordered to line up it was seen that Cotswold and Norman King were fit for the struggle and looked like making a good fight. At the fall of the flag Saxon King, which had been sent out by Potts to make the running for his stable companion, at once went to the front followed by the crowd and, passing the Grand Stand the first time, was leading the bunch. Norman King was rapidly mak- ing up lost ground and at the back of the course was forging ahead with Cotswold on his heels. Negotiating the Rock Cumming took Norman King into the third position and quickly overhauled Halifax, who also gave way to Gressan's plucky little mount. Then came the struggle of the day, the village end having been negotiated and the straight entered for the race home. Cunt- ming laid on the lash and kept up a hot speed, but Gresson knew what his stable representa. tive could do, so giving the animal his head sprang to the front and dashed past the post an easy and popular winner, thus showing that on a fast as well as où a heavy course Cotswold can assert his sterling qualitics.
Mr. D. Landale led Cotswold in after the Derby, the spectators waxing enthusiastic and cheering Greison again and again for the win, the ovation being repeated after he had been weighed at the conclusion of the
race.
