HONGKONG METEOROLOGICAL
SIGNALS.
A NEW CODE.
We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and will be hoisted on the must beside the time-ball at Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The siguals are as follows:-

A cone point upwards and ball below indicates a typhoon to the North-West of the Colony.
Red Signals indicate that the centre is believed to be more than 300 miles away from the Colony,
Black Signals indicate that the centre is believed to be less than 300 miles away from
the Colony.
The above signals will, as heretofore, be hoisted only when typhoons exist in such parl tions or are moving in such directions that in. formation regarding them is considered to be o importance to the talony on in shipping leav ing the harbour.
NIGHT SIGNALE.
Two lanterns hoisted vertically indicate bad weather in the Colony and that the wind is expected to yeer,

The signals are repeated on the dagstaff of the Godown Company at Kowloon, and also, by day only, at the Harbour Office and on il M's Receiving Ship.
LOCAL STORM-WARNINGS.
The Colony itself is warmed of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gun plated
at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever
a strong gale of wind is expected to blow here.
