SHOCKING TALE OF THE SEA.

JUNK RUN DOWN AND CREW DESERTED.

Captain J. E. Watson of the Italian steam ship Domanico has reported to the Harbour Office a shocking story, and one which would seem to call for immediate investigation. It seems that on the evening of the 19th ultimo, when about three miles S.S.E. of Song Yui, he heard yells and shrieks of persons in distress.

SPORTSMEN ENTHUSIASTIC. The trip, altogether, proved to be an exceed ingly pleasant one in every way. The sports men caine back to Üongkong looking the picture of health, and they are unanimous in recommending others who may be inclined for sport or a short trip on the West River to fol low their plan. From Canton to Samshui by rail occupies only two hours, instead of eight or ten by water. As yet the railway is not in a finished condition; some of the stations are only beginning to be built, and as the road is not quite effeLively ballasted the trains run at the rate of between 15 and 20 miles an hour. But the time saved is a consideration for those who have only a short time to spare, and it varies the journey.

From inquiries made from the survivors of the junk, all of whom, when saved were in a most exhausted condition, and had to be brought round by means of artificial 'respira- tion, it seemed that they had been run down by the steamer Hoiching. The junk was named the Sun Hung Shing, and was on a voyage from the village of Sa Pa, in the district of Cheknam, to Yeong Kong, with a general cargo of 250 tons consisting, however, mostly of sugar and rice. There were eight men in the crew of whom the Domanico saved six. They were handed over to the care of the Harbour Department yesterday.
