COAL SUIPMENTS TO HONGKONG.
ENORMOUS INCREASE.
The coal trade in Hongkong is of so much importar ce lo many persons in the Colony, that a few particulars regarding the important part Welsh coal has played in the present war should be of interest. For the first seven months of the curent year Hongkong has received 410,710 tons, against 46,455 tons for the same period last year. It is extremely difficult to ascertain the approximate quanti- ty used by the belligerent forces, and it is impossible to show the amount taken by the respective Powers,

Several European telegrams have con tradicated this report, stating that though she taken back to Vladivostok and successfully re paired there. It was even said that she had been completely repaired and was about to make further raids in the Sea of Japan. The Merchant Servi e Guild have just received an interesting letter from Mr. James Hall, their legal representative at Melbourone. In referring to the loss of the P. and O. R..S. The defence, he states, was purely a medical one, and the evidence tendered in this respect has created quite a sensation in shipping circles at Melbourne. A QUEEN'S GIFT.
While at an open-air bazar and fere in the Estrella Gardens recently, the Queen Dowager of Portugal lost a gold bracelets set with diamonds, which she greatly prized as a gift of the late King Luiz on their wedding day. A close search of the grounds for the missing ornament met with no success.
