PROBABLY few underwriters realise how large a number of steamers have been captured.or delayed by the belligerents during the present war, says a Lloyd's correspondent. The total number is 97 vessels, of which 31 only belong to the period since the capture of the F and O. steamer Malacca. Nearly all the other seizures took place in the Far Eastern waters, and a large proportion of them were enemy's ships. Thus the Japanese have made a pretty clean sweep of the Chinese Eastern Railway Com. pany's and other steamers trading under the Russian flag in the Far East, and the Russians have stized or sunk a considerable number of Japanese trading vessels.

A NEW ENTERPRISE IN HONGKONG.

A new enterprise has just been initiated in Hongkong which, from the fact that it is the first of its kind ever established in a British Colony, may certainly be said to add another feather to those lately acquired in its cap in a lovely situation on the hill behind No. 7 Police Station, and over-looking the length and breadth of the harbour, is the newly-established factory for the manufacture of Manila cigars, which are made from tobacco grown in, and- exported from, the Philippine Islands, and

by Mr. J. O. Hughes. The marriage knot was tied by the Rev. C. U. Hickling, Pastor of the Union Church, while Mr. W. Brand presided at the organ, and played Mendelssohn's" Wed ding March" as the newly married couple left the sacred edifice. After the wedding a private reception was held at "Fang Yuen, where the healths of the bride and bride gruam were drunk in bumpers. On the way to the residence a halt was made at the foot of the incline leading up to the house, and photographs were taken of the bridal party seated in their chairs. Here an amusing incident occurred, as after the first picture bad been taken, an attempt was made to take the bride and bridegroom in their chairs being carried shoulder high by the coolies, but the latter, seeing the ordeal before them, in continently bolted, and stubbornly refused to be "snap-shotted," though chased back, by the Rev. Mr. Hickling, to their post of duty, The idea had to be abandoned, the photos being taken in front of the house instead. Mr. and Mrs. Williams left in the afternoon for a short. honeymoon in Macao. Among those present were the Rev. C. H., Mr. and Miss Hickling, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. B. Sayer, Mr. and Mis. J. H. Underwood, Mr. and Mrs. A. Shelton Hooper, Mr. E. F. Aucott, and Mr. J. O; Hughes,
