We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological. signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and wil; be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port.. They do not neces- sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The (rasiguals are as follows:-

LOCAL STORM WARNINGS.

The Colony itself is warned of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gun placed

at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever a strong gale of wind is expected to blow here.
